Workshop: Solemate: Master the Art of Solitude

One of the greatest fears we have as human beings is that of being alone in our lives and left with our thoughts. This is especially true in times of personal turbulence when the instinct is to reach outside of ourselves for support. And so we seek out the company of others, achievements, even marriage, to give us a sense of security and of ourselves. There’s nothing wrong with that, after all we are social creatures and we are taught to be productive and integrate ourselves well into society. 

However, we start to occupy ourselves with the busyness of life, trying to satisfy the roles we play as a colleague, a family member, and neighbor. In that process, we have forgotten ourselves. Many people say, “I’m too busy to make time for myself.” Ironically, you are the only person who can and will be with you through your entire life. And that connection with yourself is the foremost relationship you will spend your whole life mastering. In fact, the busier you are, the more likely you are to benefit from quiet time.
